Dr. Jim Maxwell (Owner):
Born and raised in Williamsburg, VA, Dr. Jim Maxwell first became interested in equine medicine after a visit to Colonial Downs Racetrack in New Kent, VA. He pursued a degree in biology from Virginia Tech. After graduation, he spent time working at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital as a barn technician and participating in the Keeneland Sales with Three Chimneys Farm.
Dr Maxwell received his doctorate of veterinary medicine degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2011. After completing his DVM, Dr. Maxwell returned to Rood and Riddle to complete an internship focusing on surgery, medicine, and anesthesia in 2011.
He enjoys general practice with an emphasis on sports medicine and lameness.
He spends his time away from veterinary medicine outdoors, hunting, fishing, and training his chocolate lab Chewey.
Dr. W. Tyler Brady:
Dr. Brady, originally from Moore County, has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 15 years. As an undergraduate, he received his degree from North Carolina State University and graduated from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After working at Apex Veterinary Hospital for 6 years, Dr. Brady moved to Nevada where he opened his own large animal ambulatory practice. After 8 years of practice in Nevada, Dr Brady moved back home to North Carolina to be closer to family and friends.
Dr. Brady enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine and has specific interest in equine podiatry, bovine herd health and reproduction and small ruminant work.
In his spare time he enjoys being out doors, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Heather grew up in St Louis, MO and attended Northeast Missouri State University. She worked as a Humane Society cruelty investigator and later as an animal control officer before moving to North Carolina in 2005.
Since moving to the area Heather has worked as both a small and large animal veterinary receptionist. She enjoys the outdoors in all weather. Her interest includes hiking, nature photography and taking pictures of her three dogs, Tootsie, Duke Henry and Remi.
Heather lives in southwest Raleigh with her pets and wonderful boyfriend, Danny.
